||Lichenization is one of the most successful fungal nutritional strategies that also enable lichens to adapt to changing ecological conditions. The aim of the project is to find out, whether symbiotic interactions play any role in shaping lichen distributional range. We focus on model lichens with Mediterranean distribution. We aim to find out whether photobiont diversity matches the so far unrecognized genetic diversity of the mycobiont across its distributional range. In particular, we will search for an evidence of photobiont switching, which can be a driver for increase in ecological plasticity of some lichen species.
