Collected specimens serve as a source of knowledge for study of floristic
richness of West Carpathians and
Pannonia and are a basis for taxonomic and chorological research of plants, an evidence of occurence of extinct
species and deposit of distinguished types in many cases. Collections are internationally recorded and serve to
Slovak as well as to foreign experts. Institute provides service of collection for universities and for other
research institutions and free international loan service.
Herbarium of vascular plants
was founded in 1953 and up to the present time more than 100,000 specimens have been collected. Herbarium of dr. F. Nábělek is an important part of the herbarium and includes 6,343 specimens from Asia Minor and Iran.
Collection of non-vascular plants
Persons showing interests in study of herbarium materials are asked to inform of planed visit in advance.
