The Department of Taxonomy of higher plants focuses on the study of the diversity of vascular plants not only on the area of Slovakia, but of whole Carpathians, Pannonia, the Eastern Alps and other parts of Europe as well. The predominant aim of research is the floristic and plant chorological inventory of the Carpatho-Pannonian region, the study of taxonomical and nomenclatural problems of selected systematic groups, variability of plant populations, evolution and divergence of the flora of Slovak Republic. Methodical approaches, objects of research and presentation of results depend upon the goals of the individual projects carried out currently at the Department.
